Jack Smith could be investigated over massive payment from leftist law firm
Former Special Counsel Jack Smith could be facing an investigation from the Department of Justice after disclosing a massive six-figure payment from a prominent leftist law firm on Friday.
Smith, who was the architect of two criminal indictments against President Donald Trump, revealed that he had received $140,000 in pro bono legal services from the prominent Washington, D.C., law firm Covington & Burling before leaving his post at the DOJ.
In light of this revelation, Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett claimed that this "cozy arrangement” between Smith and Covington & Burling needed "more investigation," from the Trump DOJ.
During a discussion with “The Evening Edit,” Fox host Elizabeth McDonald, Jarrett explained, "Yeah, I mean, just taking this gift, for example, from a firm aligned with Democrats only fortifies the evidence of political bias and maybe corruption that drove the lawfare campaign against Trump."
Political corruption
Smith was the face of the partisan prosecution that Democrats launched against Trump in an effort to kill his political campaign and imprison him. There is every reason to go after Jack Smith after years of political gamesmanship disguised as lawful investigation.
If Gregg Jarrett is to be believed, Attorney General Pam Bondi could launch a significant investigation of not just Smith, but also other key figures in the Biden administration including former Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Jarrett stated, "Was it related to the two prosecutions he brought against Trump? Did Garland know about it? The ethics are highly questionable whether it was sanctioned or not. It’s exactly why I argued in a column on Fox News that Jack Smith should be investigated by the incoming DOJ."
Weaponization working group
Bondi has already launched a probe in the form of the Weaponization Working Group which is investigating the conduct of the previous DOJ focusing on the indictments against Trump.
Jarrett highlighted this by saying, "In fact, Pam Bondi has now launched that probe. If lawfare prosecutors like Smith manipulated the law to damage Trump’s political campaign, that is a criminal violation of his civil rights under the federal codes. Prosecutors could be prosecuted."
The writing has been on the wall for Smith for months ever since it became clear that Trump was going to win the 2024 election and become the next president.
Now he's facing down the prospect of an extensive investigation that is going to overturn every stone and uncover every dirty secret in order to take Smith down and send a message that partisan political corruption will be answered for.
Trump's revenge
President Donald Trump fought back against the full force of the law for years after losing the 2020 presidential election. Trump became the first former President to be criminally indicted and have his home raided by the FBI.
That raid on Mar-a-Lago is seen by many as the turning point for Trump after many believed his political future was dead.
Americans were outraged at the clear political undertones of the raid and the accounts of FBI agents rifling through the Trump family's personal effects proved that Trump was indeed a victim of a vicious and corrupt "deep state."
While it wouldn't be politically prudent to admit it, Smith and his cronies will face the full force of a lawful investigation as revenge for the years of hardship they inflicted on the Trump family and their allies through their corrupt investigation.
