James Comer asks medical board to suspend license of Biden's former doctor
Former President Joe Biden dropped out of last year's campaign after a disastrous debate performance exposed the extent of his cognitive decline.
Biden's former physician has since been accused of helping to hide that decline, with one lawmaker arguing that his medical license should be suspended.
Doctor accused of participating in "coordinated a cover-up"
According to the New York Post, that demand was made on Tuesday by Kentucky Republican Rep. James Comer, who serves as chair of the House Oversight Committee.
"The Committee has found that President Biden’s aides coordinated a cover-up of the president’s diminishing faculties," Comer wrote in a four-page letter to District of Columbia Board of Medicine chair Dr. Andrea Anderson.
"The Committee urges the Board of Medicine for the District of Columbia to investigate and assess whether Dr. Kevin O’Connor, during his time as physician to President Biden, was derelict in his duty as a physician by, including but not limited to, issuing misleading medical reports, misrepresenting treatments, falling to conform to standards of practice, or other acts in violation of District of Columbia law regulating licensed physicians," Comer continued.
"Based on the nature and extent of Dr. O'Connor's actions, the Committee recommends that the Board of Medicine impose discipline, sanction, or revocation of his medical license," the congressman went on to add.
The Post noted how Comer's letter came in the wake of a four-month probe which included interviews with O'Connor and other former Biden administration figures.
It noted how when O'Connor was called to testify in July, the former president's ex-physician asserted his Fifth Amendment rights rather than answer questions.
Specifically, O'Connor refused to say whether he was ever asked to lie about the president's condition and if he believed that Biden was capable of exercising his duties.
"This is unprecedented, and I think that this adds more fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up," Comer was quoted as saying in response.
O'Connor claimed Biden was in "excellent" health
"Congress must assess legislative solutions to prevent such a cover-up from happening again," he insisted. "We will continue to interview more Biden White House aides to get the answers Americans deserve."
For his part, O'Connor told the Post following Biden's stumbling debate performance that the then-president was in "excellent" condition.
What's more, the doctor argued that there was no need to carry out a cognitive function test as there was no need to do so.
