President Donald Trump scored a massive victory at the hands of the U.S. Senate this week after one of his last remaining officials was confirmed by the upper chamber without much of an issue.

According to Fox News, in a 56 -- 43 vote, Jamieson Greer was confirmed by the Senate as Trump's U.S. trade representative (USTR), a monumentally important position in the Trump administration.

Greer has plenty of experience for the high-profile position, as he was the chief of staff for former USTR Robert Lighthizer.

Trump's pick for USTR was also "credited with assisting in imposing tariffs on China and renegotiating the trade agreement with Canada and Mexico during the first administration," Fox News noted.

What's going on?

Greer also happens to be a lawyer and an Air Force JAG officer with a former deployment to Iraq. His negotiation skills are at Trump's level.

Fox News noted:

The Senate Finance Committee advanced his nomination with a 15-12 vote in early February despite some Democratic concerns about his support for President Trump's trade agenda.

Greer's nomination and confirmation was widely cheered by Republicans of all stripes.

Greer's duties will be essential to pulling off Trump's bold trade reform plans.

Fox News noted:

Greer will be responsible for pursuing U.S.-international trade agreements that align with President Trump's agenda to support American jobs and bolster supply chain resilience, which includes boosting domestic manufacturing and industrial jobs and diversifying sources for essential goods and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.

Social media reaction

Trump's supporters across social media were thrilled with Greer's confirmation, with many acknowledging the importance of having an absolute killer negotiator at the trade table.

"For decades, America let bad trade deals gut our industries while China and other countries got rich off our weakness. With Jamieson Greer confirmed as U.S. Trade Rep, it's time to make foreign companies pay their fair share. The free ride is over!!" one X user wrote.

John Husted wrote, "Ohioans know the cost of trade policies that don’t put our families and communities first. We need a leader who fights for American interests every day. Jamieson Greer will be that advocate."

It'll be more than fascinating to see what Greer, with Trump's green light, is able to pull off over the next four years or so.
