Jeff Bezos 'killed' WaPo's Harris endorsement
Jeff Bezos "killed" the Washington Post's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
This is according to a report from the New York Post.
In a surprise to many - especially to the presidential campaign of Harris - the Washington Post revealed on Friday that it will not be endorsing either candidate in the 2024 presidential election. What makes this so surprising, of course, is that the Post is aligned with the far-left, which includes Harris.
Apparently, however, Bezos was not having it. He simply refused to allow his paper to endorse Harris.
Bezos "kills" it
Reports are indicating that it was indeed Jeff Bezos, the Washington Post's owner, who instructed the outlet not to endorse Harris.
"The decision not to publish was made by The Post’s owner — Amazon founder Jeff Bezos," the Post reported.
Publisher Will Lewis has explained Bezos decision to readers in a note that he posted online.
Lewis wrote:
The Washington Post will not be making an endorsement of a presidential candidate in this election. Nor in any future presidential election. We are returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates.
He continued:
We recognize that this will be read in a range of ways, including as a tacit endorsement of one candidate, or as a condemnation of another, or as an abdication of responsibility. That is inevitable. We don’t see it that way. We see it as consistent with the values The Post has always stood for and what we hope for in a leader: character and courage in service to the American ethic, veneration for the rule of law, and respect for human freedom in all its aspects.
The aftermath
Breitbart News reports that members of the political left have essentially gone into meltdown mode over the Post's refusal to endorse Harris.
Per the outlet:
NPR’s media correspondent David Folkenflik reported on the decision, which appears to have “shocked” the paper’s left-leaning newsroom . . .
Folkenflik went on to write, "Colleagues were said to be “shocked” and uniformly negative. Post corporate spokespeople have not responded to multiple messages left by NPR on the subject."
To help put things into proper perspective, this is the first time in 36 years that the Post has not endorsed a candidate in the presidential election. On a side note, Harris has also been snubbed by her hometown paper, the LA Times.
The fact that far-left outlets are refusing to endorse Harris says a lot about the Democrat candidate.
