Many Senate Democrats have been adamant in their opposition to those President-elect Donald Trump has nominated for cabinet positions.

However, Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman recently defied the trend by pledging that he will keep "an open mind" when dealing with Trump's nominees.

Senator wants to have "an informed opinion" of nominees

According to Fox News, Fetterman made the promise in a statement posted to X on Tuesday, adding that he has spoken with some of the individuals Trump has put forward.

"I believe that it’s appropriate and the responsibility of a U.S. Senator to have a conversation with President-elect Trump's nominees," Fetterman wrote.

"That's why I met with Elise Stefanik and Pete Hegseth, just wrapped with Tulsi Gabbard, and look forward to my meetings with others soon," he explained.

My votes will come from an open-mind and an informed opinion after having a conversation with them. That's not controversial, it's my job," Fetterman went on to insist.

Fetterman voices "hard yes" for Stefanik

Fox News noted that Trump has nominated New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik to serve as ambassador to the United Nations.

Fetterman spoke positively of her in an earlier X post, writing, "Always was a hard YES for [Elise Stefanik] but it was a pleasure to have a conversation."

"I support defunding [United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East] for its documented Hamas infiltration and fully look forward to her holding the [U.N.] accountable for its endemic antisemitism and blatant anti-Israel views," he declared.

For her part, Stefanik responded with a social media post of her own which featured a photograph of herself and the senator giving a thumbs up sign.

Fetterman backs Marco Rubio for secretary of State

"Thank you to [Sen. Fetterman] for hosting a very productive meeting where we discussed our shared commitment to standing with Israel and combating antisemitism," she asserted.

"Senator Fetterman shared his ideas for strong national security leadership and I highlighted my ideas on implementing President [Donald Trump's] America First peace through strength national security agenda," she declared.

Meanwhile, Fetterman has also expressed support for Trump's decision to nominate Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio as secretary of State.
