Many Democrats were seen holding up protest signs during President Donald Trump's address to Congress on Tuesday evening.

However, Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman broke with other members of his party and suggested that their stunt gave Trump the last laugh. 

Fetterman: Democrats make "Trump look more presidential and restrained"

According to The Hill, Fetterman made that argument in a social media post on Wednesday which featured a screenshot of a Politico article.

The Pennsylvania lawmaker complained that his fellow Democrats' behavior amounted to "[a] sad cavalcade of self owns and unhinged petulance."

Democrats support Rep. Al Green's outburst during Trump's speech

Signs weren't the only form of protest seen on Tuesday night, as The Hill noted that Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green at one point stood up and began to shout at Trump.

Green's outburst came immediately after the president boasted of having just won a "mandate like has not been seen in many decades."

The congressman yelled that Trump lacked a mandate to cut Medicaid and refused to keep quiet when instructed to do so by Speaker Mike Johnson, who eventually had Green escorted outside.

The House voted to censure Green on Thursday, but Fox News reported that this process was also disrupted when Democrats began singing in support of the Texas legislator.

While the vote largely broke down along party lines with all Republicans supporting Green's censure, nine Democrats also supported the move.

Trump calls Green "an embarrassment" and "a low IQ individual"

The Hill reported that Trump later shot back at Green, who announced on Tuesday that he plans to introduce articles of impeachment against the president.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that Green "should be forced to pass an IQ test because he is a low IQ individual, and we don’t need low IQ individuals in Congress."

"Nobody takes him seriously," Trump continued. "He is an embarrassment to Congress but a much bigger embarrassment to the Democrats."
