Americans were left justifiably confused last week when it was announced that an investigation into Hunter Biden concerning tax and firearm-related crimes, which took five years, ended extremely favorably for the president's son.

Hunter Biden was offered what has been described as a "sweetheart" plea deal, essentially letting him off the hook for crimes that regular Americans have paid a much higher price for.

Legal scholar Jonathan Turley, in a recent Fox News interview, took issue with the deal, and questioned why such an investigation would take five years to begin with.

Many have criticized the deal and claimed that it only serves as further proof that there seems to be a different justice system for the wealthy and political connected.

Turley slams Garland

Garland received critical feedback from Turley, as the legal scholar argued that nothing about the case seems "logical."

"The problem that Garland has is that much of this investigation just doesn’t fit very well logically. They spent five years to charge violations that you could have established in the first month," Turley said on Fox News' "America Reports."

Turley took issue with another twist in the investigation involving IRS whistleblowers who claimed that the investigation into Hunter Biden was stonewalled by President Joe Biden's Department of Justice.

Those claims haven't yet been confirmed, but Turley pointed out that there's merit to their claims, given the consequences of getting caught lying about such information.

"Now, we haven’t been able to, obviously, authenticate this information, but what we do know is that these are people that made statements to congressional investigators under the threat of prosecution if they lie. And that comes with an element of credibility. It doesn’t mean you have to accept it as true," Turley said.

The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA)

Turley went on to question why FARA wasn't deployed against Hunter Biden as it was against former President Donald Trump's advisers and inner-circle.

"The problem that Garland has is that much of this investigation just doesn’t fit very well logically. They spent five years to charge violations that you could have established in the first month. And notably, it doesn’t include a FARA violation. So, just take that message for a second, if that’s authentic, the question again, is what happened to FARA?" Turley asked.

Others have pointed out that Hunter Biden should absolutely be held accountable under FARA, given his multiple foreign dealings, many of which are still being uncovered.

Only time will tell if Hunter Biden is ever held fully accountable, but for now, it looks like he's sitting in the clear, legally speaking.
