Judge allows Trump to deport infamous anti-Israel protestor
A judge has just given President Donald Trump the green light to move forward with the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, Fox News reports.
If you are not familiar with Khalil by name, chances are that are familiar with him by reputation.
He is infamous for his pro-Palestine, anti-Israel protests at Columbia University.
You may have seen that, just recently, he was arrested by the Trump administration - much to the dismay of anti-Israel Democrats.
Background
The New York Post reported on Khalil's arrest in early March.
Per the outlet:
A Palestinian activist who led a coalition of twisted radicals seeking the “total eradication of Western civilization” responsible for riotous protests at Columbia University and Barnard College has been arrested by ICE agents, according to his lawyer . . . He was inside his university-owned apartment a few blocks from the Ivy League campus Saturday night when ICE agents entered and took him into custody, Greer said.
The outlet goes on to report that, "despite graduating months ago, Khalil . . . still lived in school-provided housing due to a policy allowing students to remain on campus after graduating." And, "he has remained active in recent disruptive protests."
It appeared, at the time, that there was a good chance that the Trump administration would look to revoke his visa and revoke his green card.
The Trump administration has been trying to do just that.
The latest
Following his arrest, a legal battle broke out about whether or not Khalil could be deported by the Trump administration.
Fox News reports, "Judge Jamee Comans ruled in Louisiana on Friday that Khalil, 30, can be deported, saying that the U.S. government met its burden of proof to remove him."
Although Trump now has the green light, it does not mean that Khalil will be immediately reported. Instead, he will likely remain in the country while his lawyers attempt to fight the situation. This will go on until Khalil exhausts his legal options.
As would be expected, Khalil is not going quietly.
He has already released a statement on the latest court ruling, saying:
I would like to quote what you said last time that there's nothing that's more important to this court than due process rights and fundamental fairness. Clearly, what we witnessed today, neither of these principles were present today or in this whole process. This is exactly why the Trump administration has sent me to this court, 1,000 miles away from my family. I just hope that the urgency that you deemed fit for me are afforded to the hundreds of others who have been here without hearing for months.
