Judge in Trump federal case accused of favoring former president
The judge assigned to former President Donald Trump's federal case was appointed by him three years ago, leading to concerns of favoritism in his case.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) made the comments about District Judge Aileen Cannon on ABC's "This Week" Sunday.

The comments
"As we all know, her first intervention in the case was very badly smacked down by the 11th Circuit, a conservative circuit, that not only overruled her but schooled her. And as a new judge, I'm not sure how often you want to do that," Whitehouse said.
"We will find out whether she goes back to regular normal judging or continues to be a Trump advocate in a robe," he added.
It remains to be seen whether the judge assigned to Trump's federal case can act independently in light of her past rulings related to him, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said on @ThisWeekABC. https://t.co/97R5LUyyWX

The latest poll
The latest poll shows that many Americans believe Trump's case is politically motivated.
"Of the registered voter respondents, 55 percent believe that the indictment is 'politically motivated' versus 45 percent who find it 'valid,'" Breitbart News reported.
"Similarly, 56 percent of the participants categorize the indictment as 'interference by the Department of Justice in the 2024 elections,' and only 44 percent see it as 'the fair application of the law,'" it added.

Even Trump's GOP presidential opponents agreed the case against him was biased.
“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society. We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation," Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tweeted.
"Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter? The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all,” he added.
The latest push against Trump, including the judge involved, is another sign of the bias among the left and mainstream media as the case over the alleged classified documents continues, with some worried about the timing of the case interfering with the 2024 GOP primaries or the general election.
