Vice President Kamala Harris spoke out on immigration for the first time since the end of Title 42.

Harris shared remarks during a Friday fundraiser in Georgia that called gave no indication that improvement will come anytime soon to the border.

The comments

"You know, I hear that everything in the last couple days is going rather smoothly, given what the concerns were," Harris said.

"The bottom line, however, is that this issue of immigration falls squarely within the responsibility of the United States Congress," she added.

The conservative response

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis had strong words about the southern border, calling for an immediate closure following the end of Title 42.

"I'd shut down the border immediately. Why are we letting this happen to our country? It's hurting people. The drugs are pouring into the country," DeSantis said.

"Americans are dying for what's going on at border. Criminal aliens are getting into this country. Even people on the terrorist watch list are getting into this country. No, you deserve to have a secure border. You deserve to have the rule of law," he continued.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) also blasted the Biden administration for ending Title 42 and worsening the border crisis. He led the GOP to pass a secure border act despite rejection from Democrats.

"President Biden created this crisis, and his policies are making it worse. On Thurs, he will end Title 42—the most valuable tool available to secure the border," he tweeted.

"@HouseGOP is ready to act this week, even if the President will not. We will vote on H.R. 2—The Secure the Border Act," McCarthy added.

The border is not secure and Harris appears to have no plan to help change the situation.
