For the better part of a decade, pop music star Katy Perry has appeared as a judge on the ABC program "American Idol."

However, Perry revealed this week that she is about to undergo a career shift as her time on the show is almost done.

Singer tells Jimmy Kimmel that this will be her last year on "American Idol"

According to Good Morning America, Perry made the announcement on Monday evening during an interview with ABC late night comedy host Jimmy Kimmel.

"I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for 'Idol,'" Good Morning America quoted Perry as telling Kimmel.

"I mean, I love 'Idol' so much," the singer stressed before adding, "It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you [know] what I’m saying, Jimmy?"

Perry promises fans that they are in for "a very, very exciting year"

"I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music. Maybe I'll come back if they'll have me one day!" she continued.

When Kimmel asked Perry how her fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie feel about her departure, the musician said she had yet to tell them about it.

"Well, they'll find out tonight!" Perry laughed before adding that Bryan and Richie "know I have some things planned for this year."

Perry promised her fans that they can look forward to "a very, very exciting year" and explained that she has spent a significant amount of time recording music.

Perry explains why should looked lost at King Charles' coronation ceremony

HuffPost reported that in addition to discussing her departure from "American Idol," Perry also spoke about her attendance at King Charles' coronation ceremony last year.

Specifically, Perry addressed media reports that she appeared confused after entering Westminster Abbey in London.

"I was looking for my seat," she recalled. "There's no assigned seating, which was kind of interesting. [The Abbey] opened at 6."

Kimmel at one point made reference to Perry's oversized headgear by asking if the attendees seated to her rear were "happy to be behind that hat." The singer expressed doubt that they were and admitted that it obstructed her own vision as well.
