Kevin McCarthy says Trump indictment undermines rule of law
Former President Donald Trump was indicted last week on 37 charges relating to his handling of classified documents. Many Republicans have come to his defense, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
According to the Independent, McCarthy recently complained that Trump's indictment is a big problem for the rule of law.
House speaker points to double standard
"This is going to disrupt this nation because it goes to the core of equal justice for all which is not being seen today. And we're not going to stand for it," McCarthy was quoted as telling Fox News on Friday.
The House speaker went on to bring up examples of Democrats escaping prosecution despite having classified documents in their possession.
"You've got a sitting president right now in the exact same situation. You have a former first lady, senator, secretary of state, that had the same situation that nothing was done to," McCarthy complained.
Indeed, President Joe Biden made headlines earlier this year following reports that classified material was discovered in his office at the Penn Biden Center as well as in the garage of his Delaware home.

McCarthy is not alone in issuing such warnings, as Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio accused federal officials of "shredding public faith in the institutions that hold our republic together."
There is no limit to what these people will do to protect their power & destroy those who threaten it, even if it means ripping our country apart & shredding public faith in the institutions that hold our republic together

House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik spoke up as well, arguing that the indictment against Trump is meant to distract from newly uncovered evidence of corruption by President Joe Biden.
Rep. Andy Biggs: "We have now reached the war phase"
"The exact same day that the FBI is forced to turn over to Congress absolutely damning and credible allegations regarding Joe Biden’s illegal, egregious, and treasonous corruption, Joe Biden weaponizes his Department of Justice to indict Donald Trump," she said in a statement to Fox News.
"The American people are smart and understand this is the epitome of the illegal and unprecedented weaponization of the federal government against Joe Biden’s leading opponent, President Donald J. Trump," Stefanik added.
Meanwhile, Arizona Republican Rep. Andy Biggs implied that Republican authorities need to begin bringing criminal indictments against Democrats, tweeting, "We have now reached a war phase. Eye for an eye."
