House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) handed over more than 41,000 hours of video footage from Jan. 6, 2021, to Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

The Monday announcement offered a major breakthrough in transparency related to the events of the Capitol Hill riots.

The footage

"Carlson TV producers were on Capitol Hill last week to begin digging through the trove, which includes multiple camera angles from all over Capitol grounds. Excerpts will begin airing in the coming weeks," Axios reported.

"[T]here was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret," Carlson told the outlet.

"If there was ever a question that's in the public's interest to know, it's what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it. It's impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that," he added.

What's next?

"Earlier in February, former Vice President Mike Pence was subpoenaed in the special counsel investigations into the rioting on Jan. 6 and the classified documents seized in a raid on Mar-a-Lago in Florida," the Blaze reported.

"Many on the left believe that an investigation will reveal information proving that former President Donald Trump had a direct role in encouraging the protesters who attacked the Capitol in hopes of overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election," it added.

The release of video footage also comes as Trump continues his comeback bid for the White House in 2024, continuing to push his view of election denial.

Left triggered by release to Fox News

The release of information to Carlson has also certainly angered those on the left who see Fox News as biased against the events of Jan. 6.

"It is time to de-platform and close down FoxNews as a threat to national security," MSNBC's Keith Olbermann tweeted.

"@SpeakerMcCarthy has given @TuckerCarlson 41,000 hours of 1/6 Video so he can gaslight the coup AND next time provide a roadmap past detection," he added.

The major announcement will likely lead to several new reports with fresh questions about the events that occurred at the Capitol and controversy over how the events were handled by all involved.
