Kimberly Guilfoyle welcomed to White House for Greek Independence Day
Kimberly Guilfoyle was invited to the White House on Monday to commemmorate Greek Independence Day, fresh off the announcement of her breakup with Donald Trump Jr.
President Donald Trump greeted Guilfoyle with a kiss and spoke glowingly about her as a "friend" he has known for a long time.
Guilfoyle is Trump's nominee for Ambassador to Greece; she has not yet been confirmed by the Senate.
"She's a really good person"
"Also with us in person, a person that really is a great friend and been a great friend for a long time," Trump said. "I've known this woman - although she's very young, yet - I've known her for a long time."
"She came here and she loves our country and she loves Greece and now she's going to be the future ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, Kimberly Guilfoyle," the president said as the crown cheered. "And I'm going to say Kimberly, come on up and say a few words. Kimberly, come - she's really a good person."
Guilfoyle was just as effusive in praising the president.
"Most important, powerful president"
"I tell you, this is the honor and privilege of a lifetime to serve this country and to serve a country that I love so much, that is so near and dear to my heart, with Greece and to do it under the guidance, the leadership, of the most important, powerful president that this country has ever seen," Guilfoyle, whose ex-husband is California Governor Gavin Newsom (D), said.
"I know the measure of the man and his character and his strength, and I know his love for the people of Greece, the birthplace of democracy," she continued.
Under Trump, people would "sleep well at night and wake up in the morning feeling hopeful and optimistic for a man that will fight for the economy of this country and of Greece, for religious liberty and freedom and for the enduring alliance of Greece and the United States," Guilfoyle concluded, making the sign of the cross and then throwing her hands out to the sides in a repeat of how she ended her viral RNC speech last year.
"Four more years"
The enthusiastic crowd chanted "four more years" after her speech, even though Trump is term limited after 2028.
People reported in December that Guilfoyle's breakup with Trump Jr. was "not a contentious thing" and that the family was "still enamored of her."
Trump Jr. was reportedly dating Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson even before the breakup.
While it's possible that the Trumps are sending Guilfoyle to Greece because they want her out of the picture for a while, it's more likely that the ambassadorship is a reward for loyalty to the family and a sign she remains in their good graces even if she won't be joining the family as they all expected over the last few years.
In any case, everyone seems to be moving on.
