A man armed with knives near the secure zone of the RNC convention on Tuesday was shot and killed by police in a residential section of Milwaukee.

The Black man was believed to be in his 20s and was shot by a policeman from Ohio who was in town to help provide security for the event.

Police on the scene performed CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The Secret Service and DHS are investigating the shooting.

Two guys fighting

An eyewitness to the shooting said the victim was involved in a dispute with another man. The neighborhood "would've handled it" if police hadn't stepped in.

Robert Evans, who has posted dozens of tweets about the RNC convention, reported that the "riot squad" showed up after the shooting and cleared the area.

Others who posted on X, formerly Twitter, claimed the two who were arguing would have been friends again in a few hours if police hadn't shown up.

When the man with the knives was told to drop his weapon, he reached for it instead, other reports said.

 Security at high alert

The victim may have been homeless, still other reports said.

Of course, no one wants to see a man killed, but if he was threatening people with knives and didn't listen when police told him to stop, it's easy to see how he could have gotten shot.

Police are bound to be on a high level of alert after former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt on Saturday by a seemingly random turn of his head that got him shot and slightly wounded in his right ear instead of a bullet straight through his head.

People around the convention's perimeter should be very careful not to threaten anyone or even appear to threaten anyone if they want to be safe from harm.

Security will understandably be ramped up even more than usual after Trump's shooting in the effort to make sure nothing else happens to him.
