Koch network eliminates financial support for Nikki Haley

Americans for Prosperity Action, a libertarian policy advocacy group funded by the Koch family, has announced that it is reducing its financial support for Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, as The Epoch Times reported

The policy arm of Americans For Prosperity (AFP), according to Sunday's statement by Emily Seidel, has decided to "take stock" of its campaign spending in light of the former South Carolina governor's performance in Saturday's primary election, in which she was behind Republican frontrunner and former president Donald Trump by approximately 20% of the vote.

Out of South Carolina's delegates, 47 went to President Trump and 3 to Governor Haley.

The Announcement

Seidel informed colleagues in a memo that AFP Action "stands firm" in their support of Nikki Haley, but that they should "take stock of where we are and—as we always do—make sure we’re optimizing our resources for maximum impact towards our goals."

By stating that the organization will now focus on tight House and Senate contests "where we can make the difference," she was essentially admitting that President Trump had overwhelming support from primary voters.

On February 24, President Trump received more votes than any other presidential candidate in South Carolina's history, regardless of party.

Seidel further stated, “given the challenges in the primary states ahead, we don’t believe any outside group can make a material difference to widen her path to victory.” Wishing Haley luck in her presidential campaign, she lauded her as a "special leader with conviction, resolve, and steel in her spine to jump into a tough race with a narrow path," and assured her that the PAC would "wholeheartedly support" her endeavors.

Continued Verbal Support

She lauded Haley as a “special leader with conviction, resolve, and steel in her spine to jump into a tough race with a narrow path,” and wished her well, saying that the PAC would continue to “wholeheartedly support” her efforts in her run for president.

“Americans deserve a choice for president who brings out the best in our country and who can deliver bold solutions to big challenges,” the memo read.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a previous Republican candidate who withdrew from the campaign citing his obvious support for Trump during the early GOP primaries, blasted AFP last week. Ramaswamy questioned why AFP Action was supporting Ms. Haley while opposing Trump.

“I think it’s very disappointing that that network has thrown its support behind a candidate who does not even stand for the principles that they claim to embody,” he told The Epoch Times at the time.

Ramaswamy noted at the time that AFP staffers had left the PAC for the pro-DeSantis PAC “Never Back Down” over the decision.

Haley's Plan

Even though there doesn't seem to be a clear path to victory, Haley has pledged to continue running for office in the lead-up to Super Tuesday on March 5.

“I’m not giving up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of Donald Trump and Joe Biden,” Haley said in downtown Charleston after the race was called for President Trump.
