The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its leaders, Secretary Kristi Noem, are saying that a recent report that claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided a pregnant woman is "fake news," the Daily Caller reports

The original report came from KTLA 5.

It can be read in its entirety here.

The allegations

Last Thursday evening, KTLA5 reported that ICE conducted a raid of Sabrina Medina, who has since been identified as a U.S. citizen and a mother of four children. The outlet claimed that the incident took place at 6 a.m., when she was taking a shower.

Per the outlet:

The raid occurred Thursday morning when about a half-dozen vehicles carrying heavily armed, masked U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents converged on a home occupied by a 28-year-old pregnant mother of four. Sabrina Medina said she was in the shower around 6 a.m. when her brother-in-law first saw the menacing presence in front of the family’s home.

The outlet went on to quote Medina as saying, "I was just terrified, I’m not going to lie to you. I was shaking. I was scared. I’ve never gone through anything like this. I was like, ‘Am I dreaming or is this real?’"

The outlet took great pains to describe how there were "10 men dressed in tactical military gear, all carrying rifles." And it tried to make Medina look like a victim, but not just any victim. Rather, a pregnant victim with four children.

The thing is that KTLA5's reporting was a bit off the mark.

"Fake News."

Noem's DHS responded to the situation by explaining that Medina was, in fact, not the target of the raid. Rather, it was her husband.

DHS put out a message, saying:

FAKE NEWS. At this house was an illegal alien from Mexico who had previously been deported. His criminal history includes drug trafficking and assault. ICE had a warrant for his arrest.

This has been confirmed by Fox News's Bill Melugin, who was actually with ICE on the raid.

He explained:

I was at this operation with Noem. It wasn’t targeting a “pregnant mother”, it was targeting her previously deported illegal alien Mexican husband who had been convicted of drug trafficking in February & had an attempted murder charge pleaded down to an assault conviction. ICE had a criminal judicial warrant for his arrest, signed off on by a federal judge, because he illegally re-entered the U.S. after removal, which is a felony.

"Of course, none of that context is in @KTLA reporting here as they only spoke to his wife, who apparently *shockingly* didn’t disclose any of his criminal history," he added.
