Fox News reports that the man behind a hit-and-run of a mother and her baby has been murdered.

Many are now suggesting that justice has finally been carried out, particularly after the man only received a slap on the wrist for the hit-and-run.

A flashback

The hit-and-run took place in Los Angeles, California, back in August of 2021. The incident made national headlines after it was caught on camera.

The video footage begins with the mother pushing a stroller - with her baby in it - down the street at about 8:40 in the morning. As the footage continues, a car comes down the street - from the direction that the mother was traveling - then the driver directs the vehicle to the side of the street that the mother was walking on and strikes the woman and her baby head-on.

The mother gets knocked onto the hood of the car before falling to the ground. The stroller, with the baby in it, also falls on its side. The mother then jumps up to check on her baby, while a man goes running after the car that drives away.

Not long thereafter, a pickup truck strikes the fleeing car sending it into a telephone pole.

The aftermath

It was subsequently learned that the driver was a teenager who, at the time of the hit-and-run, was driving a stolen car the wrong way down a one-way street while high on drugs. The teenager wasn't identified because he was a minor.

The teen, initially, was only charged with driving under the influence. But, he ended up pleading guilty to two charges of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and a single count of hit-and-run.

For these felonies, the teen received a sentence of five to seven months in a juvenile probation camp - a sentence that Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon's (D) office described as "an appropriate resolution."

To say the least, many disagreed - including Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva and the victims.

Justice?

The latest reports indicate that the teenager responsible for the hit-and-run, who has now been identified as 17-year-old Kristopher Baca, has been murdered.

Fox News reports, "Deputies found him dead with gunshot wounds in a Palmdale driveway on the 83600 block of 11th Street East on Wednesday evening, according to the sheriff's office."

Fox, citing "sources close to the investigation," goes on to report that Baca, earlier in the day, had been trying to "get with a girl." Then, as he was walking home, a car pulled up to him, an argument broke out, and someone in the vehicle shot Baca.

The victim of the hit-and-run, upon hearing the news, said, "the universe delivered the justice we weren’t given in court, but a much harsher punishment than he’d have been dealt in a court of law."
