LAPD ends private security detail for Kamala Harris
Last month, President Donald Trump pulled the Secret Service detail protecting former Vice President Kamala Harris, sparking critics to make claims that he did it out of an act of political revenge.
Shortly after the former vice president's security detail was pulled, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass tasked a specialized unit with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to provide a security detail for Harris.
According to Fox News, that idea didn't go over so well with the general public and especially the LAPD's union, The Los Angeles Police Protective League.
Representatives from the union decried the idea of using a special operations LAPD police unit for her protective detail, arguing that California taxpayers should not be on the hook for such protection.
What's going on?
The union was especially unhappy with Harris being assigned a protective detail from LAPD's Metropolitan Division, which falls under the police agency's special operations group. The union called it "nuts."
On Monday, the union's board of directors issued a press statement to Fox News Digital, confirming that the LAPD security detail for Harris had been pulled.
"We are happy to report that the Metro officers assigned to protect the multimillionaire failed presidential candidate are back on the street fighting crime," the statement read

As she usually does, Mayor Bass tried to squirm out of the backlash generated from the asinine idea of using the LAPD to provide private security for a multi-millionaire former politician.
"The plan was always to provide temporary support, and I thank L.A.P.D. for protecting former V.P. Harris and always prioritizing the safety of all Angelenos," Bass said.
Social media reacts
Users across social media weighed in on the latest developments in Harris losing her private police force.
"When the employee's union understands and is more dedicated to the organization's mission than those running the organization..." one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "It should have never gotten to the point where a demand had to be made to end it. Why don’t cops understand they have a moral duty to not obey bad orders?"
Thank goodness that's done with. What a waste of money and resources.
