Lara Trump may run to replace Sen. Thom Tillis' seat in North Carolina
Lara Trump made headlines late last year when she chose to step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Yet Trump's political career may not be over, as the Fox News host recently suggested that she could be on the verge of a Senate run.
Mrs. Trump may seek to replace North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis
Trump conveyed the message during an interview with Breitbart News editor-in-chief Alex Marlow, speaking just one day after North Carolina Republican Sen. Thom Tillis revealed that he will not seek reelection.
"I know he wasn’t ever like a hardcore MAGA guy, but he’s been really just shooting blanks this whole first six months," Marlow said of Tillis' conduct during President Donald Trump's second term.
Marlow noted how Tillis voiced opposition to some of the president's nominees, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth along with Ed Martin, who Mr. Trump chose to serve as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
While Tillis did ultimately vote to confirm Hegseth, the North Carolina senator was able to effectively torpedo Martin's nomination.
Tillis slammed as "very RINO-esque"
Mrs. Trump agreed and drew a contrast between Tillis and other Capitol Hill figures who are "America First patriots" and "very MAGA."
"They are supportive of what President Trump wants to do," she stressed before adding, "It kind of seems like [Tillis] wants to be that guy who, you know, sides a lot of times with the Democrats — which doesn’t make a lot of sense."
"It’s very RINO-esque," she continued. The term "RINO" is an acronym for "Republican in name only" and refers to GOP politicians who are not loyal to their party's principles.
When Marlow asked Mrs. Trump whether she is running for Tillis' seat, the president's daughter-in-law told him that it might be on the agenda.
Mrs. Trump: "I’ve fielded quite a few calls from a lot of people"
"You know, it’s so funny, Alex, that this is the third time that I will have truly considered — and look, it’s fresh," Mrs. Trump replied.
"This is in the past 48 hours. All this kind of came at me. I will say, I’ve fielded quite a few calls from a lot of people. Some of those calls have come from the White House," she acknowledged.
"But this is the third time that I really consider this, and you know, at a certain point, you look at these things, and you kind of say to yourself, ‘All right, well, if this keeps coming up, maybe there’s something to it,'" Mrs. Trump went on to add.
