President Joe Biden was hit with a series of polls in recent days featuring really bad news in terms of his prospects for re-election in 2024, which has prompted freakouts and fingerpointing among some Democrats.

That includes Michael LaRosa, a former top aide to first lady Jill Biden, who exploded on social media in reaction to the "inexcusable" and "shameful" poor numbers for the president and called for wholesale changes to the Biden team, according to Fox News.

LaRosa has since deleted one of the more provocative posts he made but nonetheless noted separately that he stands by the jist of what he said and asserted that he is not alone among Democrats in feeling that way.

Former aide chastises Team Biden over poor poll numbers

The former press secretary for the first lady took to X-Twitter on Tuesday to react to a new poll from CNN that showed President Biden losing to former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 rematch of the 2020 election, among other bad news, and immediately set about assigning blame and offering up excuses.

"New CNN Poll: Trump has higher favorables+Biden has higher unfavorable. This is inexcusable for man universally known for his character+intregity. It's a result of failing to respond to smears, lies, conspiracies, and disinfo for months allowing a void of info to be filled," LaRosa tweeted.

In a since-deleted post, he took aim at Biden's team and continued, "Shameful that POTUS's team has allowed this narrative to congeal over the past two years. The only people who can help change the people around [Biden] is [Jill Biden]. It's up to her. These are the same people who got him 4th in Iowa, 5th in [New Hampshire], and a distant 2nd to a socialist in [Nevada]."

"I've been a squeaky wheel for months arguing this is the wrong approach to GOP attacks on Biden's integrity, reputation, + family. Poll after poll validates everything I've been saying+writing for months. Changing his team now will look like he actually cares+sees same #'s we do," LaRosa added.

Series of terrible polls for Biden

The new CNN poll that LaRosa referenced showed that Trump would defeat Biden 49-45% in a rematch election -- as would other top GOP candidates -- that Trump had slightly better favorable/unfavorable numbers than Biden, and that Trump had surprisingly gained ground among specific demographic groups key to Biden's 2020 victory among whom Biden had lost substantial support.

That poll followed close on the heels of a major New York Times/Siena College survey which showed Trump with marginal to comfortable leads over Biden in five of the six major "battleground" swing states.

At the same time as that poll came one from CBS News/YouGov that also revealed voters favored the former president over the incumbent overall as well as specifically on top issues like the economy and foreign policy -- more to the point, keeping the U.S. out of multiple developing international military conflicts.

All three of those polls also exposed the fact that Biden's advanced age and the increasingly apparent decline in his mental and physical health and capabilities were a serious concern in terms of his seeking another four-year term in office.

Not alone in being unafraid to "say the quiet part out loud"

Of course, LaRosa is not alone in calling out Team Biden or suggesting changes are necessary in response to these and other recent polls that raised questions about the president's re-election bid and campaign strategy, as the former press secretary pointed out in a comment to Fox News following pushback against his tweets from the White House.

"They're very sensitive to criticism and I understand that," he told the outlet of Biden's team. "But I'm also merely echoing the same sentiments expressed by others with far greater platforms like Joe Scarborough, Al Sharpton, Dan Kildee, Claire McCaskill, [David] Axelrod, and a few others who haven’t been afraid to say the quiet part out loud."

The Biden campaign declined to respond to a request for comment, and it is unclear if they or the president or first lady will heed the advice of LaRosa and the others he name-checked and make substantial changes to the Biden campaign's personnel and strategies.
