Leaks reveal that Trump ordered intelligence agencies to collect information on Greenland
Since winning last year's election, President Donald Trump has made no secret of his interest in acquiring the Danish protectorate of Greenland.
The seriousness of Trump's interest was made clear this week via a series of bombshell revelations that were leaked to the media.
Intelligence agencies told to collect information on independence movement
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that it had spoken with two unnamed sources who indicated that "several high-ranking officials under Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard" are focusing on the Arctic island.

Specifically, the officials are said to have "issued a 'collection emphasis message' to intelligence-agency heads" regarding "Greenland’s independence movement and attitudes on American resource extraction."
This includes making use of "surveillance satellites, communications intercepts and spies on the ground, to identify people in Greenland and Denmark who support U.S. objectives for the island."
Gabbard says the Journal "should be ashamed of aiding deep state actors"
The Journal noted that its report was met with condemnation from Gabbard, who accused the newspaper of colluding with "deep state actors."
"The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of aiding deep state actors who seek to undermine the President by politicizing and leaking classified information," she asserted.
"They are breaking the law and undermining our nation’s security and democracy," the director of national intelligence added.
For his part, National Security Council spokesman James Hewitt indicated that the White House would not comment on the report's claims.
However, he did state, "The president has been very clear that the U.S. is concerned about the security of Greenland and the Arctic."
Trump on Greenland: "One way or the other, we’re going to get it"
The Journal recalled how Trump drew attention to Greenland while addressing a joint session of Congress earlier this year.
"We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it," the president declared before adding, "One way or the other, we’re going to get it."
What's more, Vice President J.D. Vance made a trip to Greenland in March alongside then-National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, a move which was condemned by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen as well as some Greenland residents.
