A left-wing nonprofit is facing a serious backlash following its attempted targeting of Pete Hegseth.

The nonprofit is ProPublica, and, according to Fox News, an email that was sent by the nonprofit to Hegseth has been leaked.

Hegseth is the man whom President-Elect Donald Trump has chosen to lead the U.S. Department of Defense in Trump's incoming administration.

The big question, though, is whether Hegseth is going to get the nod from the U.S. Senate. Trump and Hegseth have been trying their best to make this happen.

Here's what is going on:

Hegseth, this past week, revealed that ProPublica was planning to publish what he referred to as a "knowingly false report" on him.

Per Fox:

A media firestorm began earlier this week when Hegseth revealed on X that ProPublica, which he called a "Left Wing hack group" was planning to publish a "knowingly false report" that he was not accepted by West Point in 1999. Attached to the post was a photo of Hegseth’s acceptance letter signed by West Point Superintendent Lieutenant General Daniel Christman, U.S. Army.

Hegseth documented all of this - including the email he received - on his social media account. Take a look:

Now, ProPublica is facing a significant backlash.

Background

Hegseth has been facing these sorts of attacks from the political left for weeks now, ever since Trump selected him to be the next Secretary of the Defense Department.

The attacks got so bad that reports started circulating suggesting that Trump was thinking about replacing Hegseth, perhaps even with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

Trump, however, recently shut down the rumors with a public statement making it clear that he continues to stand behind Hegseth for the Defense Department position.

Trump wrote:

Pete Hegseth is doing very well. His support is strong and deep, much more so than the Fake News would have you believe . . . He was a great student - Princeton/Harvard educated - with a Military state of mind. He will be a fantastic, high energy, Secretary of Defense Defense, one who leads with charisma and skill. Pete is a WINNER, and there is nothing that can be done to change that!!!

At the time of this writing, it remains unclear as to whether Hegseth will be able to survive the Senate confirmation process.
