Letitia James is housing two relatives with criminal records
After her indictment for mortgage fraud, New York attorney general Letitia James has been caught housing two family members with legal troubles of their own.
As reported by the New York Post, James’ 21-year-old grandniece, Cayla Thompson-Hairston, is an internet porn star with a record of violence and thieving who is living at one of James' homes in Virginia.
Her older sister, 36-year-old Nakia Thompson, is a fugitive from the law who is living at another Virginia property at the center of the case against James.
James' criminal family
The two siblings have been charged 11 times in the last five years over various violent incidents and robberies, which led to both of them being banned from chain stores.
In June of last year, Cayla was charged with stealing $1,600 in merchandise from a Walmart in Norfolk, Virginia but avoided prison time after pleading guilty to misdemeanor petty larceny.
The OnlyFans performer was banned from all Walmart and Sam's Club stores and ordered to pay $2,500 in restitution.
The robbery case came mere months after Cayla was hit with a gun charge for lying about her felony record. She had been banned from owning a firearm because of a juvenile felony charge for malicious wounding, which Virginia law define as an act in which a person "shoots, stabs, cuts or wounds any other person, or by any means causes bodily injury, with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill.”
But the gun charge was dropped. Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi, a Democrat, said the case was dismissed because Cayla's underlying felony had been pleaded down to a misdemeanor.
Partners in crime
Cayla's life of crime started young. When she was just 15, she was arrested for robbing Macy's and Dillard's with her older sister Nakia, who was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor - she had also brought her two kids along for the crime spree - only for Nakia to plead the case down and serve two years' probation, in addition to paying a fee.
As reported by The Post, Nakia is a wanted fugitive in North Carolina, but is currently living at a Norfolk, Virginia home that James bought in 2020 for $137,000.
This month, James was indicted by a federal grand jury for lying about the purpose of the property to secure favorable loan terms.
Cayla lives at a different home in Norfolk that also fell under federal scrutiny after James listed it as a "principal residence" despite working over 300 miles away in New York.
James, who notoriously pursued President Trump in a civil fraud case that was later slapped down on appeal, has condemned the charges against her as political.
She is facing up to 60 years in prison if convicted for bank fraud and making false statements.
