Letitia James threatened with imprisonment
New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) has been threatened with imprisonment.
The threat, according to the Washington Examiner, comes from Mike Davis, who leads the conservative judicial advocacy group.
This all comes after James, following President-Elect Donald Trump's 2024 election victory, said that she plans to "fight back" against Trump's incoming administration.
This also comes after James, after campaigning to "get Trump," prosecuted Trump in what legal experts on both sides of the political aisle have agreed was a baseless political persecution.
"I dare you..."
Davis made his remark during a recent appearance on The Benny Show podcast. There, he has some harsh words for James.
He said:
I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term. Listen here, sweetheart, we’re not messing around this time and we will put your fat a** in prison for conspiracy against rights. I promise you that.
Considering that this was such a strong statement, Davis felt the need to follow this up, in a subsequent social media post, with a message in which he made it clear that he does not speak for Trump.
He wrote:
As I have made crystal clear, I do not speak for President Trump or anyone else. Like tens of millions of other private citizens, I am outraged by the lawfare and weaponization of our system of justice, including the New York Attorney General’s political crusade. All of the witch hunts have to end so our Republic can survive and prosper under the leadership of President Trump.
That is something that most Americans would probably agree with.
Background
James, as mentioned earlier, is already threatening to continue to weaponize the legal system against Trump.
In a post-election press conference, she said, "We did not expect this result, but we are prepared to respond to this result. And my office has been preparing for several months because we’ve been here before. We faced this challenge before, and we used the rule of law to fight back."
"And we are prepared to fight back once again because, as the attorney general of this great state, it is my job to protect and defend the rights of New Yorkers and the rule of law. And I will not shrink from that responsibility," she added.
In the meantime, Trump continues to appeal the lawsuit that James brought against him. The reader may remember that James obtained a $454 million civil fraud judgment against Trump.
Legal experts do expect this judgment, at some point, to be thrown out.
