Liberal media picks on Melania for allowing Usha Vance to do the summer reading program

First Lady Melania Trump has publicly made it known that she's prioritizing the safety of her family over White House politics, yet the liberal media will do anything it can to make a story about her lack of public involvement.

The Daily Beast recently published a piece that began with the same, tired question: "Where's Melania?" The story was about Vice President J.D. Vance's wife, Usha Vance, stepping up to be the face of a children's reading program.

The outlet pointed out that such a role is usually reserved for the first lady, implying that Melania Trump should be running the program.

The ultra left-leaning outlet went as far as saying that Usha Vance was "lumbered" with a job typically performed by the first lady.

What's going on?

Usha Vance proudly announced that she would be the face of a White House-led summer reading program for children. Being quite the bookworm herself, it makes perfect sense.

The outlet noted:

Vance, wife of vice president and Hillbilly Elegy author JD Vance, appeared on Fox & Friends to tout her plan aimed at tackling the alarming stat that 40 percent of Americans can’t read at a basic level.

The White House summer reading program can result in a major prize for at least one participant, as the winner is able to take a trip to the White House.

The Daily Beast had to make the situation negative, as it made fun of Usha Vance for "stumbling" through the "softball" interview on Fox News.

News 18 wrote a neutral story on Usha Vance's announcement:

On June 1, she started the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge—a program for kids from kindergarten to Class 8. They need to read 12 books of their choice during the summer. Kids who join can win small prizes, get special certificates, and might even get a chance to visit Washington, D.C.

The rules were posted on the White House's website, instructing those who would like to be involved what they have to do and what they can win.

The rules

All children who participate in the challenge will receive a certificate and a "fun prize" according to the White House.

"Every child who completes the challenge will get a special certificate and a fun prize. Plus, if they send in their completed forms on time, they can enter into a national lucky draw to win a trip to Washington, D.C., with a parent or guardian by their side," the rules stated.

Students must simply pick out 12 books and keep a log of their reading activities. At the end, they have to write a note or draw a picture about their reading challenge.

Leave it to the liberal media to try to make it a negative story.
