Interim House Speaker Patrick McHenry made headlines this week when he kicked California Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi out of her private office.

According to Fox News, McHenry removed Pelosi on the grounds that the office is reserved for the immediately preceding House speaker, a position now held by California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

House Republican notes that Pelosi voted to remove McCarthy

McCarthy was ousted from the speaker's chair on Tuesday after eight Republicans joined with Democrats in voting to remove him.

"This was a decision by Speaker Pelosi in getting removed because that is the office for the former speaker," Louisiana Republican Rep. Garret Graves was quoted as telling Fox News.

"She's no longer the immediately preceding speaker so that was a decision she made by evicting Kevin McCarthy," he continued, adding, "That was her own decision."

However, Pelosi did not take kindly to being told that had to clear out and complained about it in a statement on Tuesday.

Pelosi calls eviction "a sharp departure from tradition"

"With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address, which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol," Pelosi wrote.

"Sadly, because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time," she explained.

"This eviction is a sharp departure from tradition," Pelosi asserted. "As Speaker, I gave former Speaker [Dennis] Hastert a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished."

"Now that the new Republican Leadership has settled this important matter, let's hope they get back to work on what's truly important for the American people," she concluded.

Liberals voice outrage

Liberal users of the platform formerly known as Twitter complained as well, including Maria Shriver, who is the ex-wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

New York Democratic Rep. Rep. Nydia Velazquez spoke up as well, saying, "From top to bottom the [HouseGOP] are classless and shameful people who are desperate to score cheap political points rather than govern."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
