Los Angeles Democrat City Council member caught on camera in violent fight

Los Angeles City Council member Kevin de León had a total meltdown at a recent Christmas party and it was all captured on camera.

Breitbart reported that he was also the president pro tempore of the California State Senate, and had been the subject of controversy before the holiday brawl.

Video surfaced on social media showing embattled Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de León involved in a fight during a holiday event in Lincoln Heights Friday,” Fox 11 tweeted, along with a clip of the footage, which showed de León engaged in a fight with another individual.

The fight

The fight reportedly took place in the Lincoln Park neighborhood during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Families and children present at the gathering were said to be “shocked” by the violent display put on by the Democrat.

Breitbart noted: “De León, once a rising political star who aspired to statewide office and recently ran for L.A. mayor, has faced calls for his resignation since audio emerged of a racist conversation in which he and other local Democratic leaders joined a local labor leader in disparaging various ethnic groups around the city.”

Two sides

Not surprisingly, Jason Reedy, an organizer with the People’s City Council, claim that the city council member started the fight.

Reedy’s attorney released a statement to that effect.

“Kevin de León and his supporters assaulted Mr. Reedy for voicing criticism of Kevin de León at a public event, echoing the widespread demands for him to resign.”

The attorney added: “De León’s supporters initiated physical contact by shoving him, and De León himself grabbed Mr. Reedy. Mr. Reedy had his hands up and did not initiate physical contact with anyone. Mr. Reedy has reported the assault to LAPD.”

De León’s statement

In a separate statement, De León told a different perception of the incident.

“Once we were able to push open a door and try to get out, Reedy launched a pelvic thrust, followed by a headbutt to my forehead. My response, in defense of myself, was to push him off of me. In the ensuing struggle, Reedy struck me in the face with a closed fist, violently elbowed a female staff member, and injured a volunteer in front of horrified parents and children,” he wrote.

It sounds like De León feels quite threatened by the activists, given his embattled status.
