Louisiana's youngest mayor arrested in connection with drug trafficking operation
Tyrin Troung generated headlines in November of 2022 when he became one of Louisiana's youngest mayors at just 23 years old.
However, the Democratic politician once again made the news this week when he was put in handcuffs over drug trafficking charges.
Mayor alleged to have been part of a local drug trafficking operation
According to Fox News, law enforcement took Troung into custody on Tuesday following allegations that he engaged in transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
The mayor also faces charges of solicitation of prostitutes and unauthorized use of a movable, which refers to taking or using personal property without the owner's consent.

The Louisiana State Police explained that Tuesday's arrest stemmed from investigation carried out by its Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force in Bogalusa, the city where Troung serves as mayor.
That investigation is said to have been carried out in conjunction with the 22nd Judicial District Court District Attorney’s Office, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.
Louisiana state is "very proud of all our law enforcement agencies"
Fox News noted that Murrill commented on Troung's arrest, saying, "We have zero tolerance for wrongdoing, especially from public officials."
The Louisiana state attorney general went on to say that she is "very proud of all our law enforcement agencies who worked on this investigation."
District Attorney Collin Sims spoke up as well, stating, "We are going to continue to invest time and resources into helping the citizens of Bogalusa. We are not finished."
In addition to Troung, police also arrested 24-year-old MacKenzie Lynn Cefalu; 24-year-old De-Saleem Wali Pittman; 22-year-old Dirul S. Pittman; 26-year-old Salehal-Dien Malike Pittman; 51-year-old Tonya Renee Stage; and 28-year-old Devan Michael Williams, all of whom reside in Bogalusa.
Authorities: Drug dealers used social media platforms to conduct business
The individuals are alleged to have been part of a drug trafficking organization which distributed opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products, and MDMA.
Authorities say that proceeds from drug sales were used to illegally purchase firearms, some of which have been linked to violent crimes.
Members of the organization apparently made use of social media platforms to arrange drug sales and communicate with one another.
Truong’s bond was set at $150,000 on Tuesday. Fox News reported that his office did not respond to a request for comment.
