A viral trend has recently swept the sports world in which players celebrate a successful play by mimicking a dance move made famous over the past few years by President-elect Donald Trump at his campaign rallies.

One of the latest to do the Trump dance is British professional golfer Charley Hull, who later explained that it was a display of her "love" for the "brilliant" U.S. president that she wishes was also the leader of the U.K., Fox News reported.

Hull joins a growing roster of college and NFL football players, UFC fighters, and U.S. Men's Soccer stars who've all performed the Trump-linked celebratory dance over the past few weeks.

Last Sunday, during the final round of the LPGA event at The Annika, Hull, who ultimately finished tied for second place, celebrated pulling ahead of her competitors on a late hole by doing the Trump dance as she walked to the next tee.

The following week, while addressing reporters at the event at Tiburon, Hull said, "I love Trump. I think he’s brilliant. I like how he just says things, he doesn’t care what people think, and he’s straight to the point." She added, "I wish he was head of the U.K. I just like him as a person. He’s a little better than our Prime Minister."

Fox News noted that Hull has previously expressed her desire for Trump's Turnberry course in Scotland to be included again as a women's event, as she said, "I thought it was a great golf course, great fun. I love being out there, and the views are brilliant," and added, "Like honestly, it’s one of the best golf courses in the world. It would be a shame to not be on there."

UFC fighter Jon Jones did the dance

Hull is far from alone among sports stars mimicking President-elect Trump's admittedly goofy dance, as Forbes reported that top athletes in different sports have all been seen doing it in recent weeks, including UFC star Jon Jones, who performed the shimmy in the middle of the octagon after winning a fight last Saturday while Trump looked on with amusement from the crowd.

Jones openly expressed his support for Trump in his post-fight comments and even went over to the president-elect and let him hold his championship belt afterward, per Fox News.

The UFC fighter's openness about supporting the Republican president may have inspired other athletes to do the same, as the dance move associated with Trump was then copied over the next few days by several NFL and soccer stars, though a few NFL and college players had already done it earlier.

One of those is NFL star rookie and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, according to USA Today, who celebrated a touchdown catch with the dance and later told reporters, "I’ve seen everyone do it. I watched the UFC fight [Saturday] night and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC so I saw it, and thought it was cool."

A week earlier, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa -- who previously got fined by the league for wearing a red MAGA hat during a post-game interview -- did the dance along with some teammates after getting a sack, and later told reporters when asked what inspired the move, "I think you know the answer to that question," and added, "All the guys wanted me to do it. I wasn't even going to do it, but the boys reminded me. And it was fun."

The Trump dance even appeared in a U.S. Men's Soccer game, according to The Athletic, as star player Christian Pulisic and a couple teammates used it to celebrate a goal over Jamaica. When asked about it later by reporters, Pulisic said, "Well obviously that’s the Trump dance. It was just a dance that everyone’s doing. He’s the one who created it. I just thought it was funny."

"I saw everyone doing it yesterday in the NFL, I saw Jon Jones do it. We’re just having a bit of fun, so I thought it was a pretty fun dance," the star player further explained. "It’s not a political dance. It was just for fun. I saw a bunch of people do it and I thought it was funny, so I enjoyed it. I hope some people did, at least."
