Pop star Madonna has been hospitalized following a serious bacterial infection.

The illness left her in an ICU along with delays to her planned world tour.

A serious situation

"Page Six reported Madonna was found unresponsive over the weekend, and was rushed to a New York City hospital and intubated," Breitbart News reported.

"The singer was reportedly intubated for at least one night before having the tube removed and is now alert and recovering. Her daughter Lourdes Leon was by her side throughout the ordeal," it added.

Change of plans

"Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected," manager Guy Oseary posted to Instagram.

“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour,” Oseary wrote. “We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”

The latest

"She was taken to her New York home in a private ambulance, a source told CNN, adding: 'She's in the clear,'" as of late Thursday.

"Madonna, who is very private about health matters, was in the final stages of rehearsals ahead of her extensive world tour," the report added.

The tour was planned as her 12th major tour as part of her 40 years in the music industry. The tour listed 45 stops worldwide as part of the celebration.

Madonna, the mother of six children, was recently seen congratulating her twin 10-year-old daughters for completing elementary school.

The latest medical situation shows how quickly things can change, with Madonna's concert tour now canceled with hopes that the "Material Girl" singer can recover and reschedule the concerts in the near future. The seven-month tour was expected to be a major financial win for the woman with over $500 million in estimated net worth following decades of hits in the music industry stretching back to the 1980s.
