Since he first entered politics, President Donald Trump has had an acrimonious relationship with members of the mainstream media.

Yet Trump appears to be getting the last laugh as another high-profile media figure recently stepped down from his longtime role. 

Lester Holt leaves "NBC Nightly News" for "Dateline"

According to Breitbart, longtime NBC News anchor revealed on Monday that he will no longer host the network's nightly news broadcast.

Holt is instead moving fulltime to "Dateline," with The Hollywood Reporter quoting him as telling the shows' staff that he will be "expanding my footprint on the broadcast and crafting 'Dateline' hours on subjects I care deeply about."

"I am thrilled to be able to work more closely with my enormously talented friends at Dateline as the broadcast continues to grow and attract new viewers in new places," Holt added.

Executive vice president calls Holt "the beating heart" of NBC News

"A smile comes to my face when I think that with 'Nightly News,' and 'Dateline,' I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history," the television journalist stressed in a note to "Dateline" staff.

"As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride," he recalled.

The Reporter noted how NBC News executive vice president Janelle Rodriguez released a memo of her own in which she hailed Holt as "the beating heart of this news organization."

"He’s earned deep respect and reverence from our newsroom, industry colleagues and, most importantly, viewers," Rodriguez said of Holt.

"What’s equally remarkable is how Lester has masterfully filled this esteemed role with extraordinary grace and humility. He’s proven time and time again why he stands among the great legends of broadcast news," she added.

Trump celebrates firing of "racist" MSNBC host Joy Reid

Meanwhile, Breitbart observed how news of Holt's job change came the same day that Trump addressed MSNBC's decision to fire left-wing radical Joy Reid.

Trump lashed out at Reid in a Truth Social post, calling her a "mentally obnoxious racist" and "one of the least talented people in television."

"Based on her ratings, which were virtually non-existent, she should have been 'canned' long ago, along with everyone else who works there," Trump declared.
