Major Democratic donors are refusing to pay for Joe Biden's library

Former President Joe Biden is looking to construct a presidential library, and this year saw officials from Wilmington, Delaware suggest four sites where it could be built.

However, Biden's plans could be crushed by the fact that many Democratic donors have decided to cut off the cash.

Democratic lawyer: "I want an $800,000 refund"

That's according to NBC News, which noted on Friday how a number of wealthy figures in the Democratic Party have said they aren't interested in contributing.

They include Florida resident John Morgan, who raised $1 million last year on behalf of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

"I want an $800,000 refund," NBC News quoted Morgan as stating. "I don’t believe a library will ever be built unless it’s a bookmobile from the old days."

Morgan referenced "the perception that [the party’s] woes rest with his decision to seek a second term and we have the Hindenburg heading straight towards us."

High-profile Democratic donor: "I am not inclined to give to libraries"

Susie Buell is another high-profile Democratic donor, and she too expressed skepticism, remarking, "No one has asked, but I am not inclined to give to libraries."

Meanwhile, an unnamed third figure said, "I’d like him to have some nice library. I just don’t see that’s where I’m going to spend my money."

NBC News' report came less than a month after the Associated Press revealed that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has experienced "underwhelming" fundraising success since the former president's term ended.

It highlighted the DNC's most recent bank balance figures, which show that it possessed just $14 million in cash at the end of July.

That figure contrasted sharply with the $84 million war chest which the Republican National Committee (RNC) has managed to amass.

DNC fundraising chair says Trump is partly to blame for money woes

Chris Korge serves as the DNC's fundraising chair, and he alleged that President Donald Trump has created a challenging climate for Democrats.

"This is a very difficult time to raise large checks for Democrats because of how vindictive Donald Trump is," Korge told NBC News.

Korge also questioned the wisdom of the former president's decision to run for a second time, asserting that "if Biden didn’t run [in 2024] he would go out as a hero, and he could focus the last two years of his term on setting himself up to raise a lot of money for the library."
