The situation with former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is getting stranger by the day, and the latest twist takes the cake.

According to the New York Post, Perry Tole, 69, the grease truck driver who stabbed Sanchez, is now filing a lawsuit against him and Fox Sports, saying the attack left him permanently disfigured.

Tole is suing the two parties for punitive and compensatory damages after Sanchez allegedly attacked him while Sanchez was in Indiana to report on Sunday’s game between the Colts and the Raiders.

The lawsuit claims that Sanchez was intoxicated when he "instigated an altercation" with Tole, who was parked in a nearby alleyway collecting grease from a business.

What's going on?

The Post provided the disturbing details of the attack:

Tole suffered “significant injuries to his head, jaw and neck” in the ensuing fight, which allegedly saw the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Sanchez bodyslam Tole to the ground, the lawsuit states.

Authorities say Sanchez turned Tole’s own knife on him, stabbing the grease truck driver through the cheek and cutting his tongue.

The outlet added:

The lawsuit alleges Tole “suffered severe permanent disfigurement, loss of function, other physical injuries, emotional distress and other damages,” as a result of Sanchez’s “malicious, willful, wanton or grossly negligent conduct.”

Tole and his attorney claim in the lawsuit that Fox Sports "knew or should have known" about Sanchez’s “unfitness as an employee, propensity for drinking and/or harmful conduct."

For his part, Sanchez is in deep legal trouble, as he now faces a felony on top of the misdemeanor charges he faced initially.

The high-level felony battery charge carries up to a six-year prison sentence and large fines.

Social media reacts

Users across social media reacted to the news of the lawsuit.

"Nothing will happen to this JOCKSTRAP but a loss of some change. Sanchez is a danger to ALL of us should we find ourselves in his drunken path. A retired 38 year old FOOTBALL player beating up an old man (who CAN'T retire at 69) trying to make ends meet is disgusting!" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Sanchez and Fox will obviously be countersuing Perry Tole into oblivion. Just imagine the future revenue losses to Sanchez and Fox."

It'll be interesting to see who prevails in the lawsuit.
