Theory suggests FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid intended to recover 'Crossfire Hurricane' investigation documents

Former President Donald Trump is facing federal charges for allegedly retaining classified documents after leaving the White House -- unprecedented criminal charges that were precipitated by an unequally unprecedented FBI raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort residence in Florida in 2022.

In the view of one pro-Trump legal expert, the current federal charges and prior FBI raid against Trump can be directly linked back to former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton's illicit home server to host government emails and fears that it had been hacked by foreign rivals like Russia, according to RealClearPolitics.

In essence, the false Trump-Russia collusion narrative and subsequent FBI "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation of the Trump campaign in 2016 was concocted to fraudulently blame Trump if a foreign rival had leaked damaging information about Clinton that had been obtained from her illegal email server -- and recovery of the alleged documents proving such was the primary motivation for the FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid.

Clinton's illegal home server led to raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago

Mike Davis, a former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee, who now heads to Article III Project that aims to impose conservative reforms on the federal judiciary, first explained his theory in mid-April in a lengthy X post.

"Again, the reason Biden (illegally) raided Trump is because Trump declassified (via memo on 1/19/2021) and kept his personal copy of his Crossfire Hurricane presidential records," Davis wrote and noted that publication of those documents would be "devastating" to certain current and former federal officials, including former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden.

"They made up the Russian collusion hoax in 2016. Because Russia almost certainly hacked Hillary’s home server. Evidencing her Clinton Foundation foreign corruption as Obama’s Secretary of State," he continued. "If Russia leaked the hacked material before the election, Hillary wanted to blame a Trump dirty campaign trick -- falsely accusing him of colluding with Russia."

Davis later added, "In other words, Obama and Biden have politicized and weaponized law enforcement and intel agencies to interfere in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential elections against Trump. Because Obama and Biden know Trump has the goods on their ongoing Russian-collusion criminal conspiracy."

Clinton, others fraudulently launched Crossfire Hurricane to falsely blame Trump for possible leaked emails

RCP reported that Davis recently recounted his theory during an appearance on former Trump adviser Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast, during which he asserted the likelihood that Clinton's "illegal home server" that contained "our nation's most classified secrets" was "almost certainly hacked by our enemies, including China and Russia."

"So when she was running in 2016, the Obama White House, Biden, Obama, Hillary, the AG, the FBI, all these officials thought that the Russians were going to put out this illegal home server of her foreign corruption schemes before the 2016 election," he continued. "So that's how we got the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, the Russian collusion investigation on then-candidate Trump because they wanted to be able to point to a Trump campaign dirty trick if the server came out, they want to say, 'Oh, you can't believe this, this was a Trump campaign dirty trick colluding with the Russians.'"

Davis acknowledged that some people might question his conclusion as "a crazy conspiracy theory" but pointed out that something similar occurred again in 2020 with the 50+ former Intelligence officials who falsely accused the New York Post of trafficking in a "Russian disinformation campaign" with its accurate reporting about Hunter Biden's laptop.

Mar-a-Lago raid intended to recover Crossfire Hurricane documents kept by Trump

The alleged connection between Hillary Clinton and the FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid didn't end there, though, as Davis also highlighted a civil lawsuit former President Trump filed in 2022 against Clinton and others over the false Trump-Russia collusion narrative that was initially assigned to federal Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart.

Reinhart was exposed for his personal bias against Trump and ultimately recused himself from the lawsuit over the obvious conflict of interest -- but just six weeks later, that apparent conflict "magically" disappeared, as he was the judge who signed off on the FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid, per Davis.

"This is why they did the Mar-a-Lago raid, because President Trump declassified via executive order on January 19th, 2021 the day before he left office, these Crossfire Hurricane documents that are so devastating to Obama, Biden Hillary, and the FBI," Davis explained.

He added that Trump's executive order, backed by a subsequent order the next day by then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, was supposed to trigger a swift Privacy Act review to confirm the declassification and public release of the documents. But Davis told Bannon, "Well, guess what? They didn't do the Privacy Act review. They didn't put out the Crossfire Hurricane records. They went to get them from Mar-A-Lago."
