Maxine Waters denied entry to federal building in Los Angeles as riots rage
Like moth to a flame, Democratic rabblerouser Rep. Maxine Waters (CA) descended on a federal building in Los Angeles on Sunday to rile up anti-ICE rioters.
The longtime LA congresswoman was denied entry to a federal detention facility as she taunted National Guard troops to "shoot" her, Fox News reported.
Maxine denied entry
Access to the facility was "temporarily restricted" for safety reasons, DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News.
Rioters in LA have spent days attacking law enforcement with fireworks, concrete blocks and other projectiles, leading Trump to send in the National Guard over the weekend to restore order. On Monday, Trump deployed 700 Marines to help deal with the unrest.
Some 2,000 rioters obstructed a freeway Sunday near the Metropolitan Detention Center, where immigrants detained in recent ICE raids have been held.
Waters showed up at the detention center on Sunday to see David Huerta, a local union leader who is facing charges for blocking an ICE operation in the city on Friday.
Waters had a door slammed in her face as she tried to enter the building by invoking her status as an elected official.
"Hello, hello, hello, Congresswoman. I just came to use my congressional authority. Excuse me, I need to get in.” She added, “I just want to see David…He is the head of SEIU local union here…I want to report back to my caucus about what happened.”
Waters heckles National Guard
Waters was also seen heckling the National Guard outside the detention center as she accused President Trump of threatening elected officials and "peaceful" protesters.
"You're gonna shoot an elected official? If you shoot me, you better shoot straight," she said.
The Democrat also exhorted people to take to the streets of Los Angeles, saying, "The mayor should be on the street. The city council should be on the street. Everybody should be on the street."
Democrats encourage unrest
Despite the violent scenes in the city, Democrats have claimed the situation is under control as they blame Trump for inflaming tensions.
Waters has a long history of riling up political unrest. She infamously encouraged mobs of people to harass Trump officials in public during his first-term immigration crackdown, and she later grabbed attention for threatening the jury in the trial of Derek Chauvin.
"Instead of taunting national guard members, the congresswoman should be trying to defuse these violent riots," DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital.
"Elected officials need to tone down their dangerous rhetoric about ICE law enforcement."
