McCarthy argues Hunter Biden deal could 'enhance' House investigations

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that Hunter Biden's deal on three federal charges could "enhance" the House's investigation of his alleged bribery scheme.

McCarthy shared the response shortly after the announcement of Hunter Biden's charges this week.

The response

“This does nothing to our investigation,” McCarthy said. “It actually should enhance our investigation because the DOJ should not be able to withhold any information now saying that there's a pending investigation. They should be able to provide Chairman Comer with any information that he requires.”

"How can Hunter Biden plead guilty, no jail time, and the DOJ say there's still an investigation, try to withhold information to the House? That's unacceptable and will not stand," he added.

Comer agrees

“Let’s be clear: the Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter reveals a two-tiered system of justice,” Comer said.

“Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery," he added.

"That lofty ideal chiseled on the pediment of the U.S. Supreme Court was blown to shreds with the indefensible plea deal for Hunter Biden that allows him to skate on severe criminal charges that would have landed anyone else in America behind bars. The preferential treatment for the president’s son makes a mockery of the law," a Fox News op-ed shared.

"We knew it was coming. The government’s investigation had stretched for more than five long years. By itself, that was absurd. The evidence against Hunter was clear and convincing," it continued.

Nothing serious

The charges appeared to show that something was done against Hunter but nothing serious, leaving few Americans satisfied that justice was done.

Instead, the Biden investigation will now continue in the House were Republicans hope to prove additional wrongdoing involving the first son and the president.

If so, the evidence could impact the 2024 election as Biden seeks to return for a second term against former President Donald Trump and several other GOP candidates.
