Media hit piece against Sen. Fetterman alleges mental health decline, supposed fights with wife about Israel support
When Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) suffered a stroke in the middle of the 2022 campaign, his wife, staffers, Democrats, and the media were all adamant that he was healthy and perfectly capable of serving amid serious concerns expressed by many Pennsylvanians and Americans more broadly.
Now, nearly three years later and seemingly out of the blue, a major hit piece from a left-leaning media outlet has been unleashed against Fetterman that seems to suggest that the senator's own wife and aides have largely turned against him, Fox News reported.
Those who are closest to Fetterman are purportedly now questioning his mental health and well-being, but some observers have noted that this sudden shift in the narrative about the former mayor and lieutenant governor comes as the senator has increasingly broken ranks with his fellow Democrats on several important issues.
Former aides share alleged dirt on Fetterman's declining mental health
On Friday, New York Magazine's Intelligencer published a lengthy article titled "All By Himself," which asserted that despite Sen. Fetterman's insistence that he was "in good health," his wife, Gisele, and many of his current and former staffers "no longer recognize" the man they once knew.
The piece extensively quoted Fetterman's formerly loyal chief of staff, Adam Jentleson, who was once arguably the senator's strongest defender but is now, after bailing from Fetterman's team last year, an outspoken critic who claims to be deeply concerned about his former boss.
Jentleson provided supposed details for a variety of alleged concerning incidents over the past few years -- none of which he felt the apparent urgent need to speak up about before now -- and other anonymous sources also chimed in with recollections of other incidents that prompted quiet questions about the senator's ongoing recovery and mental health status.
Of course, for his part, Fetterman told the interviewer that he is doing just fine now and, aside from a lingering auditory issue, has no real problems related to the 2022 stroke, and he further dismissed the new claims against him as outright lies and dishonest exaggerations from "disgruntled" ex-aides, such as Jentleson.
Gisele denies details of alleged arguments with Fetterman about his health and Israel support
Scattered throughout the Intelligencer article were multiple references to Gisele Fetterman and the supposed areas of concern with her politician husband that she found problematic, such as his outspoken and undeniable support for Israel in its battle against Hamas terrorists in the Palestinian Gaza Strip following the Oct. 7, 2023, coordinated terror attacks.
"They are bombing refugee camps. How can you support this?" Gisele is alleged to have argued with John on one occasion, per an unnamed former staffer, to which the senator reportedly replied in Israel's defense, "That’s all propaganda."
Per the staffer, Gisele later questioned her husband's aides about his staunch position, only to learn that they were opposed to his support for Israel as well, and she allegedly lamented, "If you’re pushing back on this, there’s no hope. This is horrible news."
Another former staffer claimed to the outlet that Gisele texted them days later and pleaded, "I am at breaking point and I can’t co-sign this any longer. I'd love some help in language to separate myself from this. Can anyone help me?"
The Intelligencer shared other alleged instances in which Gisele raised concerns with her husband's staffers about his health and wellbeing, but to her credit, she downplayed or denied those reports in a statement for the article that derided Jentleson for conspiratorially spreading "scary, untrue stories about John’s health."
"I would talk to John’s doctors about what Adam was telling me and they would be confused. Those doctors would tell me that their concerns were not with John, but with Adam," she added. "Any alleged 'concerns' heard from me came straight from those lies, not from John’s doctors or my own eyes."
Timing of hit piece against Fetterman seems dubious
As for the dubious timing of this hit piece against Sen. Fetterman, one popular but anonymous and typically contrarian X account astutely observed of the left-leaning media, "Funny how they didn't run these hit pieces or question Fetterman's mental health during the campaign when he was barely able to speak or when he so spectacularly fumbled the debate against Dr. Oz."
"But now that he turned out not to be a deranged Trump hater, a psychotic terrorist lover, or an obedient progressive, suddenly they're starting to question his mental acuity," the unnamed user added. "They are such unbelievable hacks."
