While former President Donald Trump is leading the race to become the Republican Party's nominee, his wife has kept a relatively low profile since leaving the White House.

However, there are growing signs that former First Lady Melania Trump may take on a more active role in her husband's reelection efforts.

"It is my privilege to share this great nation, America, with you"

An example of that came this week when the former first lady delivered a speech at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

According to Fox News, recalled her experience of coming to the United States as she addressed a group of immigrants who were about to be naturalized.

"It is my privilege to share this great nation, America, with you. For me, reaching the milestone of American citizenship marked the sunrise of certainty," she told those in attendance.

Mrs. Trump stresses the "responsibility" that comes with citizenship

"At that exact moment, I forever discarded the layer of burden connected with whether I would be able to live in the United States. I hope you’re blanketed with similar feelings of comfort right now," Mrs. Trump continued.

However, she then went on to emphasize the "responsibility" that comes with being an American, saying, "It means actively participating in the democratic process and guarding our freedom."

"It also means leading by example and contributing to our society," Mrs. Trump continued, adding, "It is a life-altering experience that takes time, determination and sometimes even tremendous strength. You are now a part of a nation with a rich history of progress, innovation and resilience."

Report: Mrs. Trump asked husband to make Tucker Carlson his running mate

Mrs. Trump later said that if she has the "privilege" of serving as first lady again then she will focus on ensuring children have the "support and resources they need to reach their full potential."

The former first lady's remarks came just weeks after Axios reported that she is urging her husband to pick conservative commentator Tucker Carlson to serve as his running mate.

Yet a Trump campaign aide later dismissed the Axios story, telling the New York Post that it was an example of "pure fiction."
