Former First Lady Melania Trump broke a tradition by choosing not to speak at the recently held Republican Nation (RNC). 

This is according to a new report from The Independent.

Per the outlet:

Melania Trump reportedly declined multiple requests to speak at the 2024 Republican National Convention breaking with the modern tradition of a candidate’s spouse addressing a crowd of delegates and potential voters.

The RNC, of course, is the event at which Trump was formally named the Republican Party's candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

Melania appears but stays silent

Most of Trump's family attended the convention, except for Barron Trump, the former president's younger son. It is not immediately clear why he chose not to attend, although reports indicate that he may have had a prior engagement.

The former first lady, however, did attend. This was somewhat surprising because Mrs. Trump has, for the most part, chosen not to participate in her husband's 2024 campaign.

Although she attended the event, she chose not to speak at it, despite being asked to do so. CNN reports, "[S]everal people appealed to her to give a speech multiple times lately, she declined to do so, two sources familiar told CNN."

This was a deviation from what Mrs. Trump did at the 2016 and 2020 Republican National Conventions.

"Wearing a MAGA-red dress, Melania joined her husband and the rest of the family on stage at the RNC, on the last day of the convention, a notable deviation from the 2016 and 2020 conventions when she delivered a speech about her husband’s life, hopes, and personality," The Independent reports.

More controversy

There are rumors that the reason why Mrs. Trump has not been making public appearances is because she is tired of constantly being attacked by the political left.

This, of course, has not stopped the attacks. It has only changed them. And, the political left is still attempting to drive a wedge between the former First Couple.

The latest controversy is whether Mrs. Trump attempted to dodge a kiss that her husband tried to give her at the convention. The video, which has gone viral, can be found here.

Although Mrs. Trump did not speak at the RNC, she did release a statement following the assassination attempt on her husband's life.

In that statement, she, in part, wrote:

When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron's life were on the brink of devastating change. I am grateful to the brave Secret Service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband… A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald's passion—his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration. The core facets of my husband's life—his human side—were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times.
