Melania Trump calls FBI Mar-a-Lago raid a ‘warning to all Americans’

Former first lady Melania Trump finally spoke out about some of what she sees as injustices being carried out against her family, largely due to the first Trump administration and former President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign.

Melania denounced the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the raid that took place at Mar-a-Lago in 2022. The raid was part of the FBI's investigation into her husband's alleged retention of secret materials, as the New York Post reported.

The search and seizure that took place at her residence was characterized as an invasion of privacy, and she advised that the raid ought to serve as a “warning to all Americans.”

“I never imagined my privacy would be invaded by the government here in America,” the former first lady recounted in a video message. “The FBI raided my home in Florida and searched through my personal belongings.”

Melania's Take

“This is not just my story, it serves as a warning to all Americans, a reminder that our freedom and rights must be respected," the former First Lady said.

Authorities worked with the team of former President Donald Trump in order to recover outstanding classified material prior to the FBI's investigation of Mar-a-Lago on August 8, 2022. The Justice Department issued a subpoena for those materials in May of that year.

More Legal Troubles

As a result of the Department of Justice's alleged "clear intent to engage in political persecution," the 45th President is considering filing a lawsuit against the agency, seeking damages in excess of one hundred million dollars.

As of right now, the former president is being investigated for a total of fourteen counts that span two separate indictments. He has pled not guilty to all of the charges against him and has denied any wrongdoing.

During the entirety of her husband's third run for the presidency, Melania Trump had, for the most part, avoided the public eye. She had made very few public appearances with the former president and had rarely expressed her opinions.

Not only is her video post on Saturday the second of its sort in recent days, but it also follows closely on the heels of a video message in which she discussed the assassination attempt that was made against her husband.

More from Melania

The former first lady spoke directly to the recent troubles for the former president.

“The attempt to end my husband’s life was a horrible, distressing experience,” she said in that video message. “Now, the silence around it feels heavy.”

“I can’t help but wonder, why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?” she went on. “There is definitely more to the story and we need to uncover the truth.”

Currently, Melania is promoting her upcoming book, titled, aptly, “Melania,” which is said to share “behind-the-scenes stories from her time in the White House, shedding light on her advocacy work and the causes close to her heart.”
