Melania Trump criticizes campaign 'efforts to silence her husband' in rare support bid

Former first lady Melania Trump has been an enigma since she burst onto the public scene as a supermodel-turned-former President Donald Trump's third wife.

That enigma didn't become more apparent once she took over the position of first lady in early 2017. To the contrary, she didn't go about her position the way any other first lady has, but it appears that she did care about it very much.

More recently, the nation waited to see how supportive Melania would be of her husband's campaign, and it appears that the answer is that she's fully in support.

In a new video promoting her autobiography, Melania Trump discussed the current cost of living crisis, political divisions in the US, and the allegations that the Biden administration tried to "silence" her husband, as The Mirror reported.

Campaign Interaction

The former first lady has been conspicuously absent from her husband's presidential campaign trail and from numerous court appearances in 2024.

Her fleeting attendance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July was one of only a handful of occasions on which she has supported her husband since he relaunched his re-election campaign.

The 54-year-old former model has now decided to leverage it as a platform to promote her forthcoming book, Melania.

The Video

In a video she shared with X on Sunday, the former first lady weighed in on the US's current situation following her husband's loss to President Joe Biden in the 2020 election—just before a black-and-white book appeared on the screen.

“The 2020 election results changed our lives forever,” Melania began in her narration over the black and white, text-first promo video released on Sunday.

“It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety and even the geopolitical landscape,” she continued.

Other Support

Melania was absent from Trump's five-week criminal hush money trial earlier this year, during which the former president was found guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Nevertheless, the former first lady asserted that her husband has been impeded by a lack of free speech, a claim that appears to be a reference to a gag order issued by Justice Juan Merchan, the judge overseeing the criminal case in New York. The gag order prevents Trump from discussing individuals implicated in the case.

“America is more divided today than ever before. It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech, as demonstrated by the efforts to silence my husband,” Melania said in conclusion before an image of her upcoming memoir took over the screen.
