Michelle Obama has made no secret of her disdain for White House life

There is growing speculation that former First Lady Michelle Obama will replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's nominee.

Those suggestions are being made despite the fact that Mrs. Obama has made no secret of her dislike for White House life.

Mrs. Obama initially opposed her husband's candidacy

As Nicki Swift contributor Nicole Cord-Cruz pointed out in an article published this week, those feelings began even before her husband ran for president.

Former President Barack Obama acknowledged as much during a 2020 appearance on "The Late Show," saying that when he first brought up the idea, his wife's  "initial response was, 'No.'"

"But, what is absolutely true is — and I've never fully got out of the dog house for this — is that I put her and our kids through an extraordinarily stressful, difficult sequence in deciding to run for president, right after I had just gone through a tough race," he added.

For her part, Mrs. Obama reflected on the difficulties that came with her rule during a recent episode of the podcast "On Purpose with Jay Shetty."

"The White House tests you in ways that you never anticipated. That was our values, our compassion, our smarts, our strategy, that got us through," she said.

Former first lady called leaving the White House "freeing"

What's more, the former first lady recalled during a tour to promote her 2018 memoir "Becoming" that she became emotional immediately after her husband's time in office ended.

"When I got on the plane I think I sobbed for 30 minutes," USA Today quoted her as saying. "And I think it was just the release of eight years of trying to do everything perfectly."

"I said to Barack: 'That was so hard. What we just did was so hard, and I've wanted to say that for eight years,'" she declared.

Mrs. Obama also said in the Netflix documentary "Becoming" that she enjoys having a lower profile, saying, "Now we're out of the White House, not to be viewed, judged and parceled by every other person on the planet — yeah, it's better, it's absolutely freeing."

Conservative filmmaker "convinced" Mrs. Obama will run

However, those statements haven't dissuaded those who think President Biden's dismal poll numbers will ultimately lure Mrs. Obama back into the spotlight.

They include conservative filmmaker Joel Gilbert, who released a documentary late last year called "Michelle Obama 2024: Her Real Life Story and Plan for Power."

"Michelle is highly political, and I'm convinced she’s been preparing to run for president for some years now," Gilbert told Blaze Media host Jason Whitlock earlier this month.
