Michelle Obama now expected to deliver speech at DNC: Report
Many, especially on the left, believed that former First Lady Michelle Obama would ultimately jump into the 2024 presidential election and sweep it.
But instead of Michelle, one of the most popular figures in the Democratic Party next to her husband, former President Barack Obama, the party wound up with Vice President Kamala Harris, who just a few weeks ago was one of the most unpopular people in D.C.
Democrats will at least get to see Michelle Obama briefly, according to Axios, as she's set to make a speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.
The former first lady was not on the lineup to speak at the DNC according to a schedule released on Sunday.
What's going on?
A source with knowledge of Michelle Obama's planned speech broke the news that she will make an appearance at the DNC, which is being held in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Additionally, President Barack Obama will also make a speech on Tuesday, setting the scene for an Obama-packed Tuesday night at the DNC.
Michelle Obama is one of the most popular and requested speakers at the DNC, stretching back to when her husband was nominated in 2008. She's made an appearance at every DNC since then, and she always garners a prime speaking slot.
Michelle Obama will absolutely overshadow any message Kamala Harris will deliver at the upcoming DNC convention. Michelle, like the other DNC speakers, will presumably attempt to rally the party behind Harris and her VP running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D).
Each day at the DNC carries a theme, and Tuesday's theme will reportedly be, "A Bold Vision for America’s Future."
Protests overshadow
Unfortunately for Democrats, the primary news coming out of Chicago related to the DNC are the massive protests that have broken out on the first day of the convention and expected to last the duration.
According to the Associated Press, Chicago Police are already earning their pay as protesters have become rowdy, breaking through security barriers and causing chaos.
The protesters are largely made up of radical progressive anti-Israel types, who are angry with the Biden administration over its stance on Israel.
Many arrests have already been made, and it'll be interesting to see what happens when night falls.
