For the better part of a year, rumors have swirled about a possible divorce for former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Those rumors are likely to intensify after Mrs. Obama rocked the internet with remarks that appear to have been directed towards her husband.

Mrs. Obama: "Politics will suck the life" out of fatherhood

According to the Daily Mail, her comments came this week as she spoke with basketball stars Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes on her "IMO" podcast.

At one point during their interview, the former first lady asked Barns whether he had ever considered pursuing a career in politics.

"I could, I love politics," the 45-year-old athlete replied. Nevertheless, he acknowledged the strain that such a move would place on his family

"I have a six-year-old and 11-month-old [and] 16-year-old twins. So daddy duty is first and foremost," Barnes was quick to stress.

"Absolutely. Politics will suck the life out of that," Mrs. Obama replied with what the Daily Mail characterized as "a pointed barb at her spouse."

Former first lady says she hasn't considered divorce for "one moment"

This is not the first time that media outlets have pointed to signs of possible tension within the former first couple's marriage.

Similar concerns were raised when Fox News reported that the former first lady did not accompany her husband to former President Jimmy Carter's state funeral or President Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony.

Yet the Daily Mail noted that Mrs. Obama was quick to denounce such speculation when she spoke with her brother in an "IMO" episode.

"There hasn't been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man," she asserted. "And we've had some really hard times. So we had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I'm married to."

Mr. and Mrs. Obama welcome their 33rd anniversary

What's more, the Obama's publicly celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary last week with a pair of corresponding social media posts.

"The best decision I ever made was marrying you, [Michelle Obama]," the former president wrote on Instagram. "For 33 years, I’ve admired your strength, grace, and determination — and the fact that you look so good doing it all. Happy anniversary!"

The former first lady replied with a post of her own on X, stating, "We've been on quite the journey over the last 33 years—and yet, I love you even more today than the day we said 'I do.'"

"Happy anniversary, [Barack Obama]!" Mrs. Obama continued before declaring that she is "so lucky to go through life with you."
