Former First Lady Michelle Obama has opened up about her time in the White House with surprising words about her family.

In a new special, Obama referred to her kids as "terrorists" to her marriage, saying she felt so "seen."

The comments

“People think I’m being catty for saying this — it’s like, there were 10 years where I couldn’t stand my husband. Ten years! And guess when it happened? When those kids were little," Obama said in a tour featuring her latest book The Light We Carry.

“The minute we had kids it was like, ‘Where are you going? And how far?‘ And you start measuring — it’s like, ‘How many diapers did you change?’ and ‘Oh, you’re golfing? Oh, you got time to golf? How you at the gym all the time?’ That’s when all the measuring starts because you got this project," she continued.

Obama hilariously and honestly added, “And guess what? Little kids, they’re terrorists. They are. They have demands. They don’t talk. They’re poor communicators. They cry all the time. They’re irrational. They’re needy. And you love them more than anything. And so you can’t blame them, right? … So you turn that ire on each other.”

Even more revelations

The former first lady also spoke in another article about crazy check-ins with her two daughters.

“When you’re letting your kids go, you’re letting your heart out there in the world. Barack and I kind of do this crazy parent text check-in, like writing things that are keeping us up at night. Barack one day sent them a text on earthquake preparedness because they now live in LA,” she said.

“And that’s the kind of thing you do as a parent. You think, ‘Uh oh, there are earthquakes. Have I warned them? Are they prepared?’ So in the middle of the night, he’s sending some article on a 10-step plan that includes, you know, getting earthquake training and stocking up on water," she added.

Obama's new book has been a national bestseller, revealing new details of what it was like for the former first lady to raise two daughters in the White House and life after Washington.

The new details have offered an inside look, with some even speculating whether the title is the start of a future plan to run for office, perhaps even president.

So far, Obama is content with life outside of politics, sharing her thoughts on parenting and more in various media outlets.
