Michelle Obama torched on social media after complaining about White House costs
As Michelle Obama makes the media rounds in a desperate attempt to fend off divorce rumors, she really stepped in it during a recent podcast during which she complained about the costs associated with moving into the White House.
In a recent episode of "Diary of a CEO" podcast, Michelle Obama complained about the costs of moving into the White House when her husband, Barack Obama, first won his presidential election in 2008 .
As a result of her complaining, she now faces tremendous backlash across social media, with many pointing out that her husband's presidential salary at the top was in the top 3% of earners in the United States.
While the Obamas weren't independently wealthy coming into office like the Clintons or Trumps, they were doing pretty well.
What did she say?
The former first lady first complained about the costs associated with travel and eating when taking up residence in the White House.
"Because it's expensive to live in the White House. Many people don't know, but much is not covered," she said. "You're paying for every bit of food you eat. You're not paying for housing and the staff in it but everything, even travel."
In other words, they got to live in the place rent-free, so no mortgage or rent payment, and had a free, full staff of helpers, but it was still "hard." Give us a break.
"If you're not traveling with the president, if your kids are coming on Bright Star - the First Lady's plane - we had to pay for their travel to be on the plane," Michelle Obama added.
Counting the cost
The Daily Mail added:
When Barack initially told her he wanted to run for office, one of her initial thoughts was questioning how they could afford it.
'You're running for two years and not earning an income,' she added. 'How would we manage this?
'Maybe way in the back of my mind, I was hoping he wouldn't [win.] But I knew he had it in him, to win.'
Needless to say, her grossly out-of-touch remarks got her dragged across social media, with many wondering if she was even remotely serious.
Social media reacts
Plenty of people had much to say about Obama's complaints.
"Most of us have to pay for our own food & transportation in addition to rent/mortgage, utilities, insurance, healthcare, etc. What makes you so special?" one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "This is a really bad look and is going to fall flat if she wanted to garner sympathy. No one in America gets anything for their family for free because of their job."
The saddest part is that she doesn't even care or acknowledge those who called her out.
