Michelle Obama will campaign for Harris
Former First Lady Michelle Obama is going to hit the campaign trail for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Washington Examiner reports:
Former first lady Michelle Obama's calendar is filling up with campaign events for Vice President Kamala Harris as she prepares to make her campaign debut next week in Michigan.
This is a major change for Obama, who has attempted to stay out of the political spotlight. The question, of course, is why Obama has suddenly decided to start making campaign appearances for Harris.
The only logical answer is that, with the election just weeks away, Harris and the Democrats have entered into desperation mode.
The details
On Friday, Harris presidential campaign announced that Michelle Obama will be hitting the campaign trail.
"The Harris campaign announced on Friday that the vice president will join former President Barack Obama and his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, for get-out-the-vote events in two of the seven crucial battleground states - Georgia and Michigan," Fox News reports.
Unlike his wife, Barack Obama has done some heavy campaigning for Harris.
Fox goes on to report, "According to the campaign, Harris will team up with the Obamas in Georgia on Thursday, Oct. 24. Early voting kicked off in the key southeastern battleground earlier this week and instantly set a new record."
It adds, "Harris advisers also said that the vice president will join forces again on the campaign trail in Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 26, the day that early voting gets underway statewide in the crucial Great Lakes battleground."
Background
Outlets are reporting that this will be the first time that Harris will appear on the campaign trail with either Obama, and it will be the first time that Michelle Obama hits the campaign trail for Harris.
The Examiner reports:
While former President Barack Obama has become increasingly involved in the Harris campaign, the former first lady has been conspicuously absent. The Harris campaign announced that this will change on Saturday, Oct. 26, when she is set to appear alongside Harris in Michigan.
There is, of course, one exception to the former first lady's absence. It was the Democratic National Convention, where Harris was official named the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.
The reader may remember that Michelle Obama gave a speech at the event that was very well received - at least by Democrats. Many considered this speech to be the highlight of the whole, multi-day event.
We will see if Obama can swing things in Harris's favor. At the moment, the polls would suggest that things are in former President Donald Trump's favor.
