More polls, more bad news for Biden

President Joe Biden just received another bad poll, and this time it is from the left-leaning CNN

The outlet reports:

President Joe Biden faces continued headwinds from broadly negative job ratings overall, widespread concerns about his age and decreased confidence among Democratic-aligned voters, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS.

SSRS conducted the poll for CNN during a period from Aug. 25 to 31, 2023. Some 1,503 "nationally representative" U.S. adults were surveyed. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The pollster asked participants a large number of questions about the current state of affairs. But, we are going to focus here on the results that pertain to Biden.

Biden's approval rating is nearing a record low

Right off the bat, the pollster asked participants, "Do you approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling his job as president?"

Only 39% chose "approve." 61% chose "disapprove."

This is the lowest approval rating that Biden has received since June 2022, when his approval dropped to 38%. This was the lowest of his presidency, at least according to CNN's polling. Biden, though, has been on a clear downward trend, in terms of his approval rating, since December 2022.

The pollster also asked participants for their general opinion of Biden. The president only received a favorable opinion from 35% of participants. 58% chose "unfavorable," while 7% had "no opinion."

It gets worse

In the poll, only 28% said that Biden "inspires confidence." Only 26% said that Biden "has the stamina and sharpness to serve effectively as president." And, only 33% said that Biden "is someone you are proud to have as president."

Perhaps just as important as the actual percentages is the fact that these percentages are headed in the wrong direction.

CNN reports:

A smaller share of the public than ever now says that Biden inspires confidence (28%, down 7 percentage points from March) or that he has the stamina and sharpness to serve effectively as president (26%, down 6 points from March), with those declines driven largely by Democrats and independents.

Bad news for the Democrats

On top of all of this, 58% of participants said that Biden "worsened economic condition in the country." And, 70% said that things are currently going "pretty [or] very badly" in the country. That is a huge number.

This cannot be good news for Biden - the clear frontrunner to become the Democratic Party's 2024 presidential nominee.

Despite all of this baggage, however, the CNN poll indicates that Biden is essentially tied with former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup. How this could be the case - despite all of the negative things that participants said about Biden in the poll - is a political mystery.
