Musk and Rubio get into heated behind-the-scenes argument: report

A new report claims that Elon Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently got into a heated argument behind closed doors.

President Donald Trump, as we will see, has responded to the situation.

The report comes from the New York TimesIt is titled, Inside the Explosive Meeting Where Trump Officials Clashed With Elon Musk.

The outlet claims its report "is based on interviews with five people with knowledge of the events." In other words, it is based on anonymous sources, which means that it must be read with a large grain of salt.

The allegation

The situation is said to have taken place during a recent cabinet meeting, which both Musk and Rubio attended.

The Daily Mail reports:

. . . Musk accused Rubio of failing to fire enough employees from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which falls under the State Department's purview. 'You have fired nobody,' Musk is said to have told Rubio, even mockingly suggesting the only person Rubio had fired was a Musk-appointed staffer.

Rubio then shot back.

The outlet continues:

Rubio, who had been fuming over Musk's aggressive shutdowns for weeks, fired back. He pointed out that over 1,500 State Department officials had already taken buyouts under Trump's federal workforce reduction initiative and sarcastically asked whether Musk wanted him to rehire them just so he could fire them again.

As this was all going on, Trump is said to have just sat back and watch it happen. At some point, though, he allegedly jumped in, saying, "Marco has a lot to deal with. He's very busy, he's always traveling and on TV, and he has an agency to run. Everyone just needs to work together."

"That's enough"

NBC reporter Gabe Gutierrez attempted to find out more information about the incident during a recent Oval Office press conference with Trump. The reporter, however, failed big time.

As Gutierrez asked about the alleged "clash" between Musk and Rubio, Trump jumped on him.

He said:

No clash. I was there - you're just a troublemaker. And you're not supposed to be asking that question, because we're talking about the World Cup. Elon gets along great with Marco, and they're both doing a fantastic job. There is no clash.

Trump, then, in one of his classic moves, asked, "which outlet are you with." When Gutierrez said "NBC," Trump replied, "Ugh, no wonder. That's enough. NBC."

The bigger question in all of this is who leaked to the media what happened - if indeed Musk and Rubio got into a bit of an argument? We'll see if Trump gets to the bottom of this.
